Survival or Extinction in a Brave New World

Rogue, rebel, maverick, individualist, radical. D I F F E R E N T.  Status Quo or Humongous Leap?   Who decides?  Who makes it happen?  Why now?

My answers: Humongous LEAP. I do. I do. To survive. Better yet, I’d like to THRIVE.  We won’t get there being, acting, and leading the same way as our peers, our leaders, or we did yesterday or even today.

Tom Peters, business guru, writes: “We are not prepared. We fall back, in these crazy times, on the command-and-control model of leadership— a model that no longer accords with how dynamic leaders actually operate…We seek shelter in the fantasy of a leader who has the answers…who promises “change” or “success” or “profits” in exchange for patient “followership” (aka “obedience”).  But in the age when all value flows from creativity and initiative, we must imagine and embrace a model of leadership that is loose, open, and perpetually innovative.”

Incremental change…or revolutionary leadership and bold leaps?  I choose the latter. How can you lead “loose”?  How can you lead “openly”?  How can you “perpetuate innovation”?   Don’t think too long…let’s GO!

We won’t move our companies from single digit market share trade offs to MARKET CREATION ACTION by hanging out in harmony with people like us doing the stuff we always did.  Take your gifts, your unique talents and GO BOLD to a place you have never been.  Enable your team to do the same.  NOW.  Swing WAY out!  As for me, I am staying out on the rebel edge where the challenges are great and the possibilities are truly limitless.  As one of my favorite T-shirts states: “if you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.”  Indeed.
