“I see dead people.”  Remember that line from the 1999 movie The Sixth Sense?  Turns out there are other much less frightening ways that a sixth sense can show up in our lives.

Ask Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski), famed Duke Men’s basketball coach and the 2008 U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball coach.  In a recent article in USA Today, Coach K claimed that Olympic team member Jason Kidd has a sixth sense.  Indeed, Jason sees amazing people on the basketball court.  Playing in the shadows of Kobe and LeBron, Kidd rises above.   Coach K puts him at the top: “it’s his mind, his instincts, the feel and the daring… being the best means that you have the ability to have the biggest impact in the creation of an environment to win.”  Jason is not leading by scoring the most points per game… he is providing the white space for others to perform and shine.

Kidd calls it instinct…”being able to be creative in a split second.”  In many games and countless situations it is just that unique ingredient, that special sauce, that makes all the difference.

You have a Jason on your team, too.  Selfless.  Silent-but-deadly.  Someone who sees the “game” with a unique view.  Someone who sees possibilities.  The team member who orchestrates with passion behind the scenes.  The person who creates in the present something that benefits many.  Someone who consistently  creates that broader palette to uncover what is possible.  A source of light, strength, courage.   Someone who can make all the difference.

You might not serve burgers for a living but trust me, we all need secret sauce.   If you infuse that sixth sense in your business imagine the impact on your business results.  Processes get tweaked, flow improves, obstacles are navigated with ease, gaps to overtake the competition are uncovered, and the talents of the team emerge.  Secret sauce adds ZEST!  Amp up the Jason on your team and the results can be exponentially extraordinary.

An NBA court is 94 feet long and 50 feet wide.  Jason Kidd sees every inch of that space in 3-D … and then adds another dimension.  He is the one that leads you through that door of untapped possibilities…that “don’t know / don’t know” space where everything that we can be lies.  Great leaders figure out how to take their teams there.

Look out at the boundaries of your business.  Who has the sixth sense?  Everyone?  An amazing team member?  You?  Is the sixth sense on your team untapped?  What bold step will you take now?
